GCSE Audience AA

  • I think key points are:
    *  Family friendly
    *  Not too many special effects
    *  Global Appeal
    *  Tv Focus on marketing
    I guess this means TV trailer, maybe a making of programme, or an interview on a chat show with one of the actors / director..  one suggestion, planning a tv advert for merchandise (action figures etc) ...
  • To think about.
    Task 1 - codes and conventions and perhaps representation
    Task 2 - institutions and audiences - why they are made, why they are popular and with whom.
    Task 3 - ideas for film and synopsis.
    Task 4 - storyboard for TV trailer.
    Revise storyboarding techniques (detail like you did for the advert).
    Merchandise seems an interesting idea.  They do say 'we want your suggestions about how to promote the film' so they'll likely have to show an awareness of all the different techniques. This also shows understanding of synergy.

Below is a sample answer paper for a mock exam on 'Situation Comedy'. You should look at the way the students has laid out their work and the examiners comments.

You will see that the student HASN'T written essays but has bullet pointed their ideas, comments and analysis. You should think very serious about using the same methods.

The benefit of doing this is that you can get a lot of information written down in a short space of time. You can use a lot of terminology and show the examiner than you know a lot about the films you have studied for your case study.

Also note that the planning tasks have been approached in a similar way - a grid with bullet points dealing with specific areas of convention.

Practice this at home with Action Adventure - YOUR IDEA in response to the preliminary materials which will be sent out today.
