HOMEWORK AND MONDAY'S SURVEY

Homestudy

Watch and analyse two adverts.

Use the blogs to complete the work.

Embed the code you get from Youtube using the Edit HTML editor and write your analysis on the blog.

OR do it in your book.

REMEMBER TO IDENTIFY 6 FRAMES TO ANALYSE JUST LIKE YOU DID BEFORE.

Monday's Survey

On Monday you will be doing the task below as well as editing your Adverts and review them.

In groups of three you must answer the following questions as accurately and honestly as you can. Prepare for this first by writing down your answers and then in class film/record yourselves using the iMacs and/or Kodaks.

This is your chance to have your say about Media Studies and help improve the courses we offer.
  1. Why did you choose Media Studies?
  2. What do you like / dislike about the subject?
  3. What do you want to get from the course?
  4. What do you think of the mix of written and practical work?
  5. Are you using the blog to help you work outside of the classroom?
  6. Do you think the course is relevant?
  7. What would you like to do more of?
  8. In the next two units you are going to be looking at advertising and also exploring film leading to a final creative task making the opening of a new film. Who do you feel about these Assignments?
Keep you answers brief and film yourselves/or each other using the iSight camera on the iMac (for two or more of you in discussion). The Kodak cameras for interviews.

ADVERTISING

Compare the Cinema and TV advert above with the poster below from the same campaign. Look closely at the images in both: especially colour, what we see and don't see, shots size, address. Also look at the use of music in the advert, who you think the ads might appeal to and why, how women/girls are represented, why Keira Kneightly was chosen for the campaign, the brand CHANEL and its sub-brand Mademoiselle,

  • Media Forms: photographic images and use of, conventions of an advert
  • Audience: who and how they are appealed to, what do they get from advert?
  • Representations: who is represented, how are they represented?
  • Institution: what is the institution? how is it shown ans when/where?
  • Narrative: is there a narrative? what is it?
Make notes in your books as pairs and then return to your seats.
